KCRG: Community honors 8th graders with special award

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (KCRG-TV9) – Quota International of Cedar Rapids is a service organization who has provided plenty of resources to the community during its 76 years of operation.

One thing the group focuses on is the advancement and support of children. When a member of the club passed away, the group wanted to honor her by creating something that focuses on the value of education.

“It is a big step, moving from middle school to high school, and we wanted to honor children who have grown in middle school,” Quota president Stephanie Schulte said. “We asked the schools to pick some children who had grown not just in academics, but also in their personal life or their attitudes.”

The students selected by teachers and faculty at their schools will join their families at the Longbranch Hotel for the 8th grade honors luncheon Friday. Iowa Senator Liz Mathis will give the keynote speech, while photographers will be on site to capture the moment.
