Robins, IA – State Senator Liz Mathis of Robins announced today that she is running for re-election to the Iowa State Senate in 2016.
Mathis is running in Senate District 34, which includes the people of Marion, Hiawatha, Robins, Cedar Rapids, Bertram, Ely, and southern Linn County.
“I am running for re-election to the Senate to make certain our children get a great education, our small businesses thrive and all people have access to good health care,” Mathis said. “I will continue to work hard to address more economic growth and good jobs, better public safety and advanced agricultural practices for family farmers.
Mathis pointed to her several legislative accomplishments in the Senate, including:
*Voting for stable school funding that will help all school children succeed.
* Approving the largest tax-cut in the state’s history by reducing taxes on all businesses without shifting the burden to residential property owners.
*Making certain vulnerable Iowans receive the health care they need; adequately funding the disabled, elderly, children and mentally ill.
*Holding down tuition costs at our community colleges so workers can get the training for 21st century jobs.
*Providing incentives to boost production of renewable energy, which results in creating Iowa jobs that won’t be exported.
Mathis is the Chair of the Human Resources Committee, Vice Chair of the Veteran’s Affairs Committee; and serves on Appropriations, Commerce, Economic Growth, and Education committees.
Mathis and her husband, Mark, own a small business. They have two children, Mark IV and Mary.
